In the 1950s, The Napier Co. contracted with Doris Day to be a spokesperson for Napier by launching the “Doris Day” jewelry line. The jewelry can be identified with a hang tag “Doris Day Originals,” or those pieces documented in our book on pages 313-317. What was not discussed, and perhaps one day we will cover this in a future blog, is that the relationship between Doris Day and The Napier Co. had lots of challenges that resulted in a short-term collaboration. Below is a rare image of the marketing material from the “Doris Day Originals” Napier campaign and “Doris Day Originals” bracelet.
The collections read as follows left to right.
‘“Golden Rhythm” as worn by DORIS DAY. Parallel polished curves and hand tied knots with the look of real, real gold. Perfect for wear at any time of day and an asset to any costume.”
“A Basket Weave Pattern of Golden Strands has been created with breathless beauty to lend an aura of appeal to late afternoon and evening costumes. A design of lasting loveliness.”
“The Antique Charm of Many Circles is smoothly polished and finely figured in alternate rows—casting a spell of exquisite grandeur. Perfect with daytime tweeds or elaborate evening fabrics. Available in the richest of silver or golden finishes.” (Image not shown)
“The Splendor Iridescent Crystal that enhances delicately fashioned golden cords. A flattering ensemble selected by the FONTANA SISTERS of Rome to embellish a dramatic ball gown from their latest collection.”
“Daintily Folded Golden Petals possess a lightness of weight and effectively contrasted textures. Conservatively styled for wear day after day—the ideal choice for any occasion.”
“Soft Luster Pearls with Golden Accents are beautifully matched and strung on the finest of delicate chain. Measured by standards of the highest quality. The matching earclips are delightfully designed for comfort and attractiveness.” (Not shown)
